42nd Street Moon’s Commitment to
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The 42nd Street Moon family stands with the African American community in their outrage and mourning.  While we strive to be welcoming of all on and off our stage, we recognize that we still have a long way to go. We commit to redoubling our efforts from this point forward to provide a safe and inclusive theatrical home for artists and audiences of color and to work to ensure their representation on and off stage at 42nd Street and MoonSchool.

The 42nd Street Moon family commits itself to exposing and eliminating the systemic biases that pervade the entertainment industry and society as a whole.

What we do is all about voices, and our strategic goals include opening access to creative outlets and being representative of the diversity of the greater Bay Area community that comprises our staff, board, talent and audience base in terms of race, ethnicity, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion , education, national origin, and economic status.

These goals will be an ongoing item on every meeting agenda, as well as a key consideration in artistic and organizational planning — all board members, staff, and artists are asked to explicitly commit to these goals and to take responsibility for furthering them within their own sphere of influence inside and outside of 42nd Street Moon.

We embrace diversity and actively seek to perpetuate and celebrate it not only on stage but off stage, as well. We believe that talent, skill, dedication, and passion transcend race, ethnicity, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion , education, national origin, and economic status, and unless the theme and content of the script explicitly require it, we will always work proactively to put together talent and creatives representative of the breadth of the greater community.

42nd Street Moon’s DEI Council

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council of 42nd Street Moon is a group comprised of 42nd Street Moon board members and staff as well as Bay Area artists, youth, and community leaders who strive to celebrate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within 42nd Street Moon both on and off stage as well as throughout the Bay Area theatre community.

42nd Street Moon’s DEI Council meets bi-weekly to discuss our goals and action plan for change.
