TEEN CLASSES

GRADES 7-12

MoonSchool at 42nd Street Moon offers year-round technique and performance-based classes specifically designed for our older kids! Whether your student is brand new to theatre and looking to get their feet wet, or has lots of experience and ready for the next stage—we have a class for you!

To request financial assistance, please complete this financial aid form. We are able to offer a limited number of full or partial scholarships, as well as payment plans, each session thanks to our generous donors and board of directors.

WAYS TO REGISTER FOR YOUR CLASS

1. Full Series – Make the most of your class by signing up for the full series! Every week brings something new and exciting for every class. Register for a full series so you don’t miss a single note! Note: All Musical Theatre 360 Classes are offered in person only. 

2. Drop In – Try something new! We know you’ve been thinking about trying that one class. Choose the date you are available and drop in for a session! 

 

IMPORTANT COVID-19 INFORMATION

  • Full Series packages AND Drop Ins are available to be taken either in person OR via Zoom. (Exceptions listed below with classes)
  • All students age 12+ are required to show proof of full vaccination in order to join classes in person. Proof of vaccination must be brought to first day of class or day of drop-in class (physical vaccination card, digital record, or photo). 
  • All MoonSchool instructors and staff are required to be fully vaccinated before beginning instruction. 
  • Students who attend class in person will be required to wear a mask at all times. 
  • All students under the age of 12 who are still unable to be vaccinated will be required to wear masks at all times. Weekly tests are recommended for in-class participation for students under the age of 12 this Fall. 
  • We ask that you do not attend class in person if you are feeling ill. If you or someone in your household receives a positive COVID test following your attendance in class, please notify us as soon as possible so that we can alert those who may have been exposed.

MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE

Sat. 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Starts September 25

This conservatory style theater program will introduce our youth actors to theater-style songs, dances and scenes in a 10-week session. We will take various music and scenes from youth Broadway shows such as Hamilton, Beetlejuice, Mean Girls, Rent, Moana, Frozen, Shrek, Lion King, Schoolhouse Rock, Peter Pan and much more!! The actors will learn proper character development preparation, singing preparation and dance preparation and technique performance skills so that they can actively perform in fully staged musical productions and deliver a knockout Musical Review the last day of class! There will be multiple age groups in this class, working on shows that fit their age and level of experience.

MUSICAL THEATRE 360

NEW!

MoonSchool is proud to offer its first conservatory-style program for youth performers that will offer a full spectrum look at being a theater performer. We will take students through classes and activities that build their skills in dramatic stage monologues and scene work, comedic stage monologue and scene work, creative character development, mastering ensemble, supporting and lead acting roles, theater performer preparation, social justice and awareness and much more! This program is designed to educate, develop, and inspire the next generation of well rounded actors! 

ALL MUSICAL THEATRE 360 PROGRAM CLASSES WILL BE OFFERED IN PERSON ONLY. 

 

CREATING YOUR OWN SHOW!

Wed. 4:30 – 5:30 PM
Starts September 22

Instructor: Carly Ozard

This conservatory-style theater class will introduce our teen students to the skills required to write, costume design, makeup design, set design, light design, direct, choreograph, stage manage, market and perform their own show. This 10 week session class will allow the kids to create a new show concept and write a 1 Act production with a variety of songs, dance and acting scenes. Teaching artists will mentor students on techniques, processes and procedures required to carry out each weekly task with the end result being a youth new-works production to be performed as a final recital.

HOW TO BE AN INDUSTRY PROP DESIGNER

Sat. 10 am – 12 PM
Starts September 25

No show can succeed without fabulous art design and designers! As such, we are proud to present a prop design class like no other. Students will go through a 10 week conservatory-style class and learn the ins and outs of designing props to create amazing stage worthy props! This class will design props for the conservatory 360 performance class to use for their final recital.

THEATRE PERFORMANCE

Thurs. 4:30 – 7PM

MTI’s All Together Now!: A Global Event Celebrating Local Theatre

This show is a musical revue featuring 15 slots for musical performances with song selections tailored to best fit the talents of the fall cast. All Together Now! features songs from MTI’s beloved catalogue of musicals including Annie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Come From Away, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, Godspell, Guys and Dolls, Hairspray, Into the Woods, Les Misérables, Little Shop of Horrors, Mamma Mia!, Matilda, My Fair Lady, Once on This Island, Rent, Waitress and many more!

  • Performance Dates: December 3 and 5

VOICE CLASSES

VOCAL PERFORMANCE

Wed. 5:30 – 6:30 PM
Starts September 22

Instructor: Christopher Hewitt

This class is for those interested in learning and exploring musical theatre repertoire and vocal style. Students will not only get a chance to learn new rep but also perform in class to receive feedback!

DANCE CLASSES

HIP HOP

Tues. 5:45 – 6:45PM
Starts September 21

Expect funky, fun urban beats from around the world with easy-to-follow choreo! Students will learn whacking, voguing, house, krump, and many more styles to some sick beats!

BEGINNER JAZZ

Mon. 4:30 – 5:30PM
Starts September 20

Brand new to jazz? Give it a try with our introductory level jazz dance class! This class will focus on the basic moves and get you ready to combine them into easy to follow combinations. 

BEGINNER TAP

Mon. 5:30 – 6:30 PM
Starts September 20

This class will start with a warm-up before moving into learning a dance combination! The warm-ups and combos will incorporate foundational tap vocabulary (i.e. taps, flaps, etc.) and move at an easy pace. No previous tap experience required – Great for those who are new to tap or returning after a long hiatus! You’re welcome to wear tap shoes if you have a good place to scuff; socks or sneakers are great, too! 

BEGINNER BALLET

Sat. 12:15 – 1:30 PM
Starts September 25

No previous experience required! In this introductory class, students will learn the basics of ballet and get you ready to combine them into easy to follow combinations. 

MUSICAL THEATRE TAP – INTERMEDIATE

Tues. 4:30 – 5:45PM
Starts September 21

Students will learn and hone foundational tap vocabulary while also refining rehearsal and memory retention skills applicable to future rehearsal processes all while learning tap routines from Broadway’s best musicals!

MUSICAL THEATRE JAZZ – INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED

Tues. 4:30 – 5:45PM
Starts September 21

Instructor: Zoë Swenson-Graham

Students will learn and hone foundational jazz vocabulary while also refining rehearsal and memory retention skills applicable to future rehearsal processes all while learning jazz routines from Broadway’s best musicals!

MUSICAL THEATRE BALLET – INTERMEDIATE

Sat. 1:30 – 2:45 PM
Starts September 25

Students will learn and hone foundational ballet vocabulary while also refining rehearsal and memory retention skills applicable to future rehearsal processes all while learning ballet routines from Broadway’s best musicals!

REGISTRATION POLICIES
Registrations are processed in the order received. Registrations are accepted until class is full or until the class begins. Closer to the start date of the class, we will email further details confirming dates, times, and other information.

CANCELLATION
If you cancel registration two weeks or more prior to the first day of class, you will be issued a full refund minus a $25 administrative fee. If you cancel your registration within two weeks of the first day, there will be no refunds unless your spot can be filled by a student on the waiting list. In the event that we are able to fill your spot, you will receive a full refund minus a $25 administrative fee.
